Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has become a key component of sustainability for any large business undertaking, and even more so for a mining concern such as the Tujuh Bukit development project of Merdeka Copper Gold.
PT BSI, as the operating arm of Merdeka Copper Gold in the development and eventual operations of the Tujuh Bukit copper and gold mine in Banyuwangi, East Java considers itself to be an integral part of these communities. It is fully aware that its presence has a profound influence on the lives and livelihoods of people in the region. Such influence can be good or bad, depending on the way PT BSI carries out its business.
However, as a company that fully adheres to worldclass best practice standards, PT BSI has sought to bring good to the communities in which it operates, while striving its best to minimize any negative impact accruing from its operations at a level that is tolerable by the communities at large.
With that in mind, PT BSI carried out a comprehensive social mapping in 2016 with the help of a leading CSR consultant. Carried out in April 2016, the mapping exercise has provided PT BSI with valuable data in order to formulate CSR programs that are sustainable for the long term.
